KNUST proposes innovation hub for student ventures, with GCB Bank as possible partner
Ghana's Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has outlined plans for a hub where students and researchers could build ventures, and has named GCB Bank as a possible partner.
Why it matters: KNUST students and researchers are the intended users of the planned hub, which is still a proposal under discussion with GCB Bank.
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana, said it has put forward plans for an innovation hub where students and researchers could develop business ventures from their ideas, naming GCB Bank PLC as a possible partner.
According to the university, Vice-Chancellor Professor Christian Agyare presented the plan when seven representatives of the bank, headed by Akua Owusuwaa Abora, its Head of Public Universities, came to KNUST.
Agyare said the hub would draw together science, engineering and health expertise to foster joint work and produce practical solutions.
He proposed setting up working teams to draw up project papers and costings, which would underpin further talks on what the hub covers and how it is delivered.

For KNUST students and researchers, the hub is still only a plan: if working teams produce project papers and costings, these will frame the next round of talks with GCB Bank on the hub's coverage and delivery.
