Franziska Boenisch became director of Fraunhofer AISEC, an applied and integrated security research institute, on 1 October 2026, leading it in a dual leadership with Georg Sigl as executive director.
Why it matters: Staff and partners of Fraunhofer AISEC now work under two directors, with Georg Sigl as executive director and Franziska Boenisch as institute director.
Fraunhofer said Franziska Boenisch became director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security (AISEC) with effect from 1 October 2026.
According to Fraunhofer, she was at the same time appointed to the Chair of Software and Systems Security at the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
Fraunhofer said Georg Sigl takes on, with immediate effect, the role of executive institute director within AISEC's dual leadership.
Sigl has been an institute director at Fraunhofer AISEC since 2010 and is a professor at TUM's Chair of Security in Information Technology, according to Fraunhofer.
