Why it matters: The University of Iceland's Faculty of Social Work co-hosts, with two ministries, the 29 October presentation of a draft government strategy and action plan against child poverty.

The Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Education and Children and the University of Iceland's Faculty of Social Work are jointly holding a symposium on child poverty, the university announced.

According to the university, the event will present the main findings of a recent report on child poverty and the situation of families with children, together with a draft government strategy and action plan against child poverty.

The announcement says discussion will cover how economic circumstances affect children's well-being and participation, which groups are disadvantaged, and proposals to improve support and equalise children's opportunities.

The symposium takes place on 29 October 2026 from 08:30 to 10:30 in room VHV 023 of Veröld – Hús Vigdísar, and admission is free, the university said.
