DAAD president makes official visit to IPB University, its only host in Indonesia
The president of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) visited IPB University on 22 October, where the rector said he hoped for closer ties in joint research, academic mobility and innovation.
Why it matters: For international offices working with German partners, IPB's visit shows the priorities one Indonesian university put to DAAD: joint research, academic mobility and innovation.
IPB University said Prof Joybrato Mukherjee, president of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), made an official visit to its Dramaga campus on 22 October and that it was the only Indonesian university chosen to host him.
Rector Dr Alim Setiawan Slamet said the university counts more than 100 DAAD alumni among its lecturers and researchers and expressed hope for closer collaboration with DAAD and other German institutions in joint research, academic mobility and innovation.
The university also reported that it was one of three recipients, from more than 120 proposals, of a grant under SCOPE-HE, the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package for Higher Education, for a Blue Economy Research Cluster project led by Prof Hefni Effendi.
Mukherjee called Indonesia a strategic partner of Germany and said links between German and Indonesian universities are very strong.

IPB University's lecturers, researchers and students, together with DAAD and institutions in Germany, are the parties directly involved. If the closer collaboration the rector hoped for in joint research, academic mobility and innovation is put into practice, then IPB staff and students would have more routes to work with German partners.
