Chile's higher education undersecretary proposes 2027 budget working group with rectors
At a session of Chile's Council of Rectors, the higher education undersecretary proposed a joint working group to address 2027 budget needs and reflect on how universities are funded.
Why it matters: Universities in Chile's Council of Rectors could gain a dedicated working group with the government on their 2027 budget needs if the proposal goes ahead.
According to the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH), Science Minister Ximena Lincolao, Higher Education Undersecretary Fernanda Valdés and Higher Education Superintendent Francisco Achurra took part in a session of the council.
CRUCH reported that Undersecretary Valdés proposed forming a working group with the council to address the needs of the 2027 budget.
The council said the proposed group would also reflect on the system used to finance universities.

Richard Davies, Policy and Finance Editor
If the working group proposed by the higher education undersecretary is set up, CRUCH member universities would have a joint forum with the government on 2027 budget needs and on the university funding system; at this stage it remains a proposal made at the council session.
