Algeria's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research published a reminder notice about a draft evaluation grid used to assess promotion to the rank of Professor.

According to the ministry, the draft grid will take effect from the promotion session held in November 2028.

Why it matters

Academics in Algeria planning to apply for promotion to Professor, and the university leaders who support them, have a stated date from which the new assessment criteria will apply.

The notice is labelled a reminder and refers to a draft, but the announcement does not describe what the grid assesses or how it differs from current arrangements. Institutions will need the full document to judge the effect on staff promotion planning.

What to watch

  • The ministry states the grid will apply from the November 2028 promotion session.
  • The announcement does not set out the grid's criteria or weightings, or say whether the draft may still be revised before it takes effect.
